Athletics are an integral part of the school’s educational program. The opportunity to try-out for interscholastic teams is available to students in Grades 6-8. Sports offerings include field hockey and  soccer in the fall, basketball in the winter, and softball and baseball in the spring. Intramural Sports will also be offered to Grades 5-8 but will vary by season.

    Fall & Winter Sports Updates for WHS & WMS:

    With the announcement of Westbrook extending its time in remote learning there are numerous questions as it relates to athletics for our fall season and upcoming winter season. Some of these questions do not have answers as of yet.  Below please find the most up to date information as it relates to the wrap up of our Fall Sports season and the start or our Winter Sports season.     WHS Fall Sports Update:

    Unfortunately our Fall Sports season ended the week of November 1st due to Covid but we have so much to share and celebrate. 

    WHS Fall Season Awards Ceremony: Tuesday, November 24th at 6:30 pm

    Our season ending awards ceremony will be Tuesday, November 24th at 6:30 pm in a virtual format.  Our format will consist of an opening ceremony for all Fall sport families and student-athletes and then will move into a team breakout session to allow the coaches and student-athletes to share in a more intimate and meaningful way their sport specific experiences and stories.  Information on the virtual access to this event and break out rooms will be made available on Monday, November 21st.

    Awards pick up & Uniform & Equipment drop off: Monday, November 30th:

    • Field Hockey: 2:40p – 3:10p
    • Girls Soccer: 3:15p – 3:45p
    • Boys Soccer: 3:50p – 4:20 p
    • Details on location and protocols will be forthcoming

    WHS Winter Sports Update:

    WHS Winter Sports registration:  WHS Winter Sports registration is open with a hard deadline!

    WHS Winter Sports registration is open. Please register now! Due to the delay of the start of winter sports by the CIAC to a date to be determined our deadline has been extended to Noon, Friday, November 20th.  This is a strict deadline and students will be unable to register after this date.  Our registration information will be crucial in our determination of how we will organize indoor programs, set squad sizes and implement healthy and safe Covid guidelines.  If you are on the fence you should sign up. Please be sure you have an updated physical on file as well with our health office.

    • Cheerleading

    Upon registration each student-athlete will be assigned to that sports team Google Classroom Team page where further updates and communication will be shared by the coaching staff as well addressing preparation for the season.

    WHS Winter Sports Information and Q&A:  6:30 pm, Thursday, November 19, 2020

    This is a brief information session and Q&A for parents and student-athletes regarding the winter season and what it may look like and what Covid guidelines will be followed for student-athlete safety and health.  This session is being run the day before the registration deadline to provide the most up to date and accurate information for families on the fence about signing up or playing.  The meeting link will be shared on Thursday, November 19th via school messenger and the athletics website.

    These dates and times are TBA until we receive notice from the CIAC after their Board of Control Meeting on November 17th.

    CIAC Winter Sports Update:

    It is anticipated the CIAC will be providing information to superintendents, principals, and athletic directors sometime after their CIAC Board of Control Meeting on November 17th. Upon receipt of that information both the Shoreline Conference and Westbrook Public Schools will come together to determine next steps, schedules etc.

    WMS Fall Sports Update:

    Thank you to our Fall coaching staff in Boys Soccer (head coach Joe Campbell, assistant Paul Garrity), Girls Soccer (head coach Caitlin Rickaby, assistant Brittany Palermo) and Field Hockey (head coach Abigail Fredrickson, assistant Kara Lesandrine) for providing a healthy and safe experience for our student-athletes to come together two times per week in October to practice skills, learn team strategy, exercise and have fun in each of their respective sports!

    WMS Winter Sports Update:

    At this time WMS Winter sports are on hold. We will determine the appropriate course of action upon evaluating our daily educational situation and also what and how the high school season is doing and looking like.  The next update for WMS Winter Sports will be provided the week of December 7th.

    Please stay safe and healthy and practice appropriate social distancing and Covid guidelines to assist and aid in the mitigation of the virus so we may return sooner than later.  We will persevere!





    Get a jump on your Westbrook High School Winter Sports Season! Do not wait until the last minute and miss out! Register today as there is a hard deadline! The CIAC at its October 15th Board of Control Meeting approved a winter sports game limitations and practice schedule. However we will be waiting on final CIAC plans and approvals on all protocols no earlier than the week of Nov. 10th and possibly later.

    High School Winter Student Athletes must be registered online via Power School and have updated physicals (if necessary - check your profile on PowerSchool to check your physical expiration date) turned into the health office by Noon, Tuesday, November 17th  to guarantee clearance to start on the first day of practice. Due to the nature of the pandemic and required planning this DEADLINE IS FIRM and late registrations WILL NOT be accepted!  If you are on the fence we recommend you register as you will not be allowed to do so after November 17th. See info below about an informational meeting on November 16th to answer any questions you may have before registering.

    Pre-season start Dates (as of now per CIAC):  (detailed practice schedules and finalized game schedules will be forthcoming after the final programming approvals by CIAC)

    To participate please register online via Power School and make sure your updated physical is on file with the school nurse, reviewed and accepted. Instructions are available on the WHS Athletics Website under the Resources section.

    Informational Meeting about the season and opportunity to answer questions before registration closes on November 17th.

    After teams are finalized a REQUIRED WINTER SPORTS PARENT & STUDENT-ATHLETE MEETING followed with team meetings & coaches to follow will be announced.
