Welcome

Athletics are an integral part of the school’s educational program. The opportunity to try-out for interscholastic teams is available to students in Grades 6-8. Sports offerings include field hockey and  soccer in the fall, basketball in the winter, and softball and baseball in the spring. Intramural Sports will also be offered to Grades 5-8 but will vary by season.

Athletic Department Updates

  • WMS Fall Sports Registration is Now Open

    Dear WMS Parents and Guardians:

     

    I hope everyone is having a great summer! Please know that fall sport and intramural sign-ups are now open in Family ID (see instructions below). Please sign up no later than August 29th for Soccer or Field Hockey (open to grades 6 to 8) and September 5th for Tennis (open to grades 5 to 8) to guarantee clearance to start on the first day of practice. Students must have a physical on file with the nurse from within the last 13 months in order to participate in either interscholastic sports or intramurals. 

     

    Boys Soccer - practice starts Tuesday, September 5th and games start Tuesday, September 12th

    • Head Coach: Tom Karasay

    • Meets Monday through Friday
    • practices run from 2:30 - 4:45 PM; games start at 3:45 PM

    Girls Soccer - practice starts Tuesday, September 5th and games start Tuesday, September 12th

    • Assistant Coach: Scott Strang
    • Meets Monday through Friday
    • practices run from 2:30 - 4:45 PM; games start at 3:45 PM

    Field Hockey - practice starts Tuesday, September 5th and games start Tuesday, September 12th

    • Meets Monday through Friday

    Intramural Tennis - starts Tuesday, September 12th

    • Head Coach: Paul Garrity 
    • Meets Tuesdays and Thursdays
    • 2:30-3:40 PM (may take the late bus home)

    Unified Sports with Coach Dan Jennings starts mid September. More information to come!

    Fall Sports Family ID Sign Up Information

    We are excited to announce that we are now offering the convenience of online registration through FamilyID (www.familyid.com), which is now part of the ArbiterSports (www.arbitersports.com) family!

    FamilyID is a secure registration platform that provides you with an easy, user-friendly way to register for our programs and helps us to be more administratively efficient and environmentally responsible. When you register through FamilyID, the system keeps track of your information in your FamilyID profile. You enter your information only once for each family member for multiple uses and multiple programs.

    Registration Process

    A Parent/Guardian should register by clicking on the link below.

    Registering as a new user on FamilyID is simple.  Follow these steps:

    First, create and activate your FamilyID account.

    1. If you have not already done so, create a FamilyID account here.

    2. After you sign up for an account, please check your inbox for an Activation Email from FamilyID. You'll need to click the link in that email to activate your account.

    3. Once you have activated your account, you will be ready to register for our program! Please click here to watch a quick video or read a help article on how to register for the first time on FamilyID.

    4. Click the blue Submit button. After selecting Submit, the registration will be complete. You will receive a completion email from FamilyID confirming your registration.

  • WHS is a National Safe Sports School

    Westbrook High School (Westbrook, CT) has been named by the National Athletics Trainers Association (NATA) as a National Safe Sports School, First Team honoree for the three-year period ending August 15, 2024. We are proud to once again receive this national recognition!
     
    Congratulations are in order to our nurse, Tina Bennett, our District Health Team, and all of our coaches who are keeping our student-athletes prepared and safe!  Way to GO KNIGHTS!

  • WHS RECEIVES MICHAELS CUP AWARD FOR THE SIXTH YEAR IN A ROW

    Congratulations to all Westbrook High School athletic teams, athletes, and coaches for being awarded the Fred Balsamo Sportsmanship Award and The Michaels Cup Award for the 2021-2022 school year.
     
    The Fred Balsamo Sportsmanship Award is named after Connecticut Association of Athletic Directors (CAAD) Executive Director Fred Balsamo. The Balsamo Award is given to schools that demonstrate outstanding sportsmanship and provide an enjoyable experience for students in athletics.
     
    "The Michaels Cup honors exemplary athletics programs for their willingness to subscribe to the Class Act Sportsmanship standards, empowering students to take an active role in their school climate and their continued support for community service." 
     
    This is the sixth year in a row Westbrook Athletics has earned this prestigious award. We are so proud of our athletes, coaches, and our entire athletic department.
     
    The Westbrook High School Athletic Department looks forward to continuing to meet the high standards these awards encompass.
